WHAT IS A PRESSURE SENSITIVE (PS) LABEL?

There are pressure sensitive labels attached to practically everything we regularly consume. Although most people are unaware of the components and complexity of a label, labels serve as representatives for corporate brands and have a very intimate connection with consumers.

When making a product, pressure sensitive labels, often known as "ps labels," may be affixed to anything with very little force and do not require the use of sticky glue. A label that we call "The Sandwich" is composed of five layers.

LINER

Labels can be wound on a roll thanks to the backing material, which is comprised of paper or plastic film and prevents the labels from sticking to one another. The liner is either discarded once the sticker label has been removed so it may be affixed to a product or it is delivered to specific recycling facilities where it is turned into a secure alternative fuel source.

DISCHARGE COATING

The release coating, when applied to the liner, is intended to make it simple for the label face-stock to separate from the liner during application.

ADHESIVE

The adhesive, which attaches the label face-stock to the product, is arguably the most undervalued part of a label. To guarantee that the adhesive formula is created to meet the needs of the product and the variables for any given application, brands should work closely with their packaging manufacturer and label manufacturer. This covers the supplies utilised, the temperature during label application, the surroundings used for wet or dry storage, the storage temperature, the texture and materials of the packaging, etc.

COVER STOCK

The "label" is perceived and conceived of as being this. In order to find label materials (substrates) and embellishments that can improve the artwork being printed on the face stock, brands should consult with their label manufacturer. Paper, plastic films, foils, and laminates are typical face stock materials.

Top COAT

A label is protected by this final layer of the "label sandwich," which can also be utilised to give the label distinct textures or finishes.

Finally, the labels must be rewound in the proper orientation for the packaging line equipment once the matrix has been removed to enable machine application of the labels. Numerous businesses and a wide range of goods, including food, beverages, home chemicals, beer, wine, personal care products, cannabis, and numerous other items bought every day in the India, utilise pressure-sensitive labels.
